Why God

Austin French doesn't open "Why God" with an answer — he opens with the actual questions people ask in grief: why does "a daughter or a son" die "long before their time," why does "a promise and a ring" become "a broken thing." The song sits in that confusion rather than rushing past it.

What makes the lyric work is the line right after: "I don't understand, but I understand." It's not a resolution of the contradiction, it's an honest description of what faith actually feels like under real pain — the questions stay open even as trust holds. The chorus turns that tension into motion: "it's why God I run to Your arms, over and over again," naming God as the reason for the pain and the place he runs to because of it.

By the bridge the request has gotten specific and vulnerable: "give me a faith stronger than I have... that You hold my heart when it breaks." That's the song's real subject — not answers to why bad things happen, but a request for enough faith to keep holding on without them.
