He’s My Rock

Bri Babineaux's “He's My Rock” is a song of steadiness through changing circumstances. It opens with the world's movement: “Mountains rise and fall, seasons come and go.” Against that, the singer says there is one thing she knows: “I can trust in You.” The second verse admits that “people let you down and life is filled with pain,” and the response is to fall to the ground and say, “He's my rock.”

The chorus puts the singer in a position: “On a solid rock I stand.” The next verse remembers the past. “You were faithful in the storm, I was never left alone,” so “in every mountain high and every valley low, I will trust in You.” The bridge looks ahead, with stormy winds blowing and a decision to call on God's name “in the sun or the rain” and to hold on to his truth. The song ends by quoting the hymn “My Hope Is Built,” with “on Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.”

The rock image is from Psalm 18:2 and Psalm 62:2. A house standing in the storm on rock is Matthew 7:25.
