Emmanuel (God With Us Forever)

Bryan & Katie Torwalt begin "Emmanuel" before creation itself — "before You set the edge of time, foundations of the earth and sky" — establishing that the plan for incarnation predates the world it would eventually enter. "The joy was set before Your eyes, You knew that You would give Your life" draws directly from Hebrews' language about Christ enduring the cross "for the joy set before Him," placing that joy at the very beginning of the story rather than only at its costly middle.

"The heavens warred, the earth stood still, His final breath, He tore the veil" compresses the crucifixion into a handful of specific, concrete events — torn veil, final breath — rather than a general statement about atonement. "The angels sang, 'holy is His name,' defeated death, He broke the grave" moves in the same breath from Christ's death to His resurrection, refusing to let the song rest in the crucifixion alone.

The repeated title itself carries the theology: Emmanuel, God with us, stated as a settled fact rather than a wish — "forever" attached to it insists the nearness isn't temporary, tied to one incarnation in history, but a permanent condition established by it.
