We Won't Be Shaken

Fire and pouring rain stand in for whatever comes next, and the answer is a group refusal: "we won't be shaken." Building 429 writes the opening verse in the first person, "this life is not my own," "I know You go before me and I am not alone," before the chorus moves to "we," turning private trust into shared resolve.

A mountain that "rises higher" and a way that "seems so unclear" supply the pressure in verse one, while verse two turns to prayer: "You've heard my every prayer," "You've held me in my weakness." Surrender is stated plainly, "It's Your way and not my own," and the line "My mind is set on nothing less than You and You alone" explains why the footing holds.

The bridge strips the language down to "We will trust in You, we will not be moved," and the wordless "oooh" stretches give the chorus room to be sung by a crowd. Psalm 62:6, "I shall not be shaken," sits behind the hook, with Isaiah 43:2 supplying the promise about passing through water and fire.
