Peace On Earth

Song Meaning

CeCe Winans and Phil Wickham frame Christmas as a sound before it is a scene: an "invitation" for distant hearts, a voice of "hope and healing" ringing through the madness. The first verse hears peace arriving, and the second turns to sight, with a single shining star reaching from the heavens to find people in the dark and lead the wanderers to the end of their search.

The refrain keeps returning to one phrase, "the light of peace on earth," so the line works like a candle passed hand to hand. Verse three shifts from watching to walking. The singers ask the listener to move forward with courage and to "lay our lives like offerings / before the holy child," naming him restoration, new birth, and help through endless ages.

The last chorus drops the imagery and says it plainly: "This child, he is the savior, Jesus." The outro closes with the carol line "O come, let us adore him," ending on "Christ the Lord." That echoes the angels' message in Luke 2:14, and it ties the child to the promise of Isaiah 9:6 and the saving purpose given in Matthew 1:21.

[Verse 1]
I hear an invitation
A song for distant hearts
The voice of hope and healing
For all we've torn apart
It's ringing through the madness
And it's crying to be heard
The sound of our salvation
The sound of peace on earth

[Verse 2]
I see a light above me
A single shining star
It reaches from the heavens
To find us in the dark
It's leading all who wander
To finally end their search
The light of hope and promise
The light of peace on earth

[Chorus]
The light of peace on earth
The light of peace on earth

[Verse 3]
So let us now keep walking
With courage through the wild
And lay our lives like offerings
Before the holy child
For he's our restoration
And he is our new birth
Our help through endless ages
Our blessed peace on earth

[Chorus]
This child, he is the savior
Jesus
Our peace on earth
Our peace on earth
Our peace on earth
Our peace on earth

[Outro]
O come, let us adore him
O come, let us adore him
O come, let us adore him
Christ the Lord
Christ the Lord
