Heart And Soul (The Sienna Session)

A sawdust floor is where the story of "Heart and Soul" begins: "I found redemption on a sawdust floor / Left behind those footprints of the man I was before." Cochren & Co. keep the testimony physical and plain. The singer cannot forget "all that I've been forgiven for," calls the result "sweet freedom," and says that song stays with him down "every dark and dusty road."

The chorus is a pair of open-ended promises: "When You say, 'Run', I'll say, 'How far?' / When You say, 'Wait,' I'll say, 'How long?'" What makes that obedience possible is the line that follows, "'Cause You will never let me go." The third verse adds hardship to the mix, counting "every heartache" as joy because God is "working as You have every time before," with the hope of glory waiting until the day he is called home.
