Resurrection Blood

"I was a dead man walking on a dead-end road" is how Cody Carnes starts, describing a soul "free falling with no place to go." The description matches Ephesians 2:1 on being dead in trespasses. Then comes the interruption: "I heard Jesus knocking and He called me home," and the Spirit now lives "deep inside these bones."

The chorus gives the song its title and its main image: "I've got resurrection blood flowing in my veins." It pairs the idea with "resurrection life in a hollow grave" and "resurrection power when I speak Your name," which echoes the Spirit giving life in Romans 8:11. The second verse lists what changed, "all my chains went falling," fears running from the Holy Ghost, and sins "white as snow," a phrase from Isaiah 1:18, with freedom "anchored in that crimson flow."

The bridge goes to the tomb itself. "See that stone rolled away, see that conquered empty grave," recalls Matthew 28:6, and it claims that "demons flee, darkness shakes at the sound of Jesus' name." The last lines state the exchange: "By His death my debt is paid, now I rise, now I'm changed."
