Hallelujah Here Below

Humility shapes the opening: "we are an altar of broken stones, but You delight in the offering." Cross Worship and Osby Berry contrast heaven's grandeur with an earthly voice. God has "the heavens to call Your home," yet "abide[s] in the song we sing," and while "ten thousand angels" praise Him constantly, "hallelujah from here below is still Your favorite melody."

The chorus is a simple repeated "Hallelujah," a response that fills the center of the song. A verse about waning faith comes next: "should the fire that once burned bright become an ember my eyes can't see, I will remember Your sacrifice, I will abide in Your love for me." The memory of the cross becomes what holds worship together when feeling fades.

The song then names who is being praised: "Jesus Christ our King enthroned, all the praise is Yours forevermore." A later verse looks ahead to "a wonderful day to come when every knee bows before Your Name," but adds, "we will not wait until it does, for here and now shall Your Kingdom reign." Psalm 22:3 says God inhabits the praises of His people, Isaiah 66:1 calls heaven His throne, Philippians 2:10 is the bowing knee, and Hebrews 13:15 calls praise a sacrifice.
