Song Meaning
Love that does not run out is the single claim David Ize builds "Permanent" around. Sung in French with Lingala lines in the chorus, it announces up front that this is a song about a love that is consistent. The verses confess how far the singer drifted: "j'ai fui, j'ai fait naufrage," made mistakes, became someone hard to put up with. Each confession ends on the same turn, "ça n'a pas empêché de m'aimer," it did not stop You from loving me.
The second verse moves from running to wondering. After years of searching, the singer discovers that the love he looked for was already there, and asks what Jesus could possibly see in him. No answer is offered except the refrain, "Mon Jésus m'a aimé plus que tout," repeated alongside the Lingala line about a love that lasts forever ("ya libela").
The bridge piles up adjectives for that love and its grace: "excellent," "suffisant," "rassurant," each chanted until it sticks, with a call for everyone to join in. The closing refrain returns to the opening claim, echoing Paul's conviction that nothing separates believers from the love of Christ and his word that grace is sufficient.
