David Phelps' “Long Time Coming” tells the story of someone who has lost track of himself. He asks how he ended up in this crazy place and says there must be something wrong with the mirror because he does not recognize his own face. He calls himself a modern-day prodigal son.

Yet the one he faces looks at him as if he were chosen. With arms open wide, he says, he has lost all his pride and says he is God's. The chorus describes the long road: it has been a long time coming, a twelve-round fight and a thousand nights of darkness, but now he sees the light.
