Fireworks

Deitrick Haddon's “Fireworks” is a live gospel praise song that uses the image of a fireworks show to describe worship. The opening call asks the crowd to put their hands up and then declares a blessing over the sinners in the room.

The first verse recalls the day when everyone was of one accord and a mighty rush of wind came while they waited on the Lord. That is when the Holy Ghost came down, and the song says it felt like fireworks in the room, with something special happening whenever believers gather. The chorus tells everyone to let their light shine and to send up a praise like fireworks that illuminates the sky. Haddon leads the congregation through call and response, asking for hand clapping, jumping and shouting, and then asks anyone who has come to give God their best praise to scream where they are. The spoken lines and the audience replies are part of the track, so it has the feel of a church service rather than a studio recording. The idea behind it is simple: praise is meant to be seen and heard, and when it goes up together it lights the place. It suits a youth service, a concert opener or any time a group needs to be encouraged to stop holding back and celebrate.
