One Blood
Song Meaning
Deitrick Haddon writes from a still moment: “I’m sitting here thinking / To myself,” and what he sees is need “from the shores of India / Back to the hood.” The verses name a world of people “misunderstood,” and the response is a stubborn confession, “I still believe / That love is the answer.”
The chorus carries the central claim: “You and I are one in the same,” with “red blood… flowing through one vein.” Backing vocals echo “One Blood” again and again, so the idea is heard as much as read. The second verse turns darker, asking why “we’re killing each other” and recalling that “the blood from the innocent / Is crying from the ground.”
That last image comes from Genesis 4:10, and the unity claim matches Acts 17:26, where God makes every nation from one man. The closing stretch moves into solidarity, with the singer calling the listener “my brother” and “my sister” and promising to “feel your pain.” It reads as a plea for empathy across racial and social lines, grounded in shared humanity and in the love of 1 John 4:7.
Yep [echoed]
All over the world [echoed]
One blood [echoed]
Ohh [echoed]
Come on love [echoed]
Listen!
I'm sitting here thinking
To myself
People all over the world
Are in need of help
From the shores of India
Back to the hood
People everywhere
Are misunderstood
But I (I still believe)
That love is the answer (I believe)
That we still can come together (holding on)
Keep holding on to what I know is true (ohhh)
I'm pouring my heart, my heart out to you
You and I (you and I)
One (are one in the same)
Red Blood (red blood)
Flowing through one (flowing through one vain)
Hear you crying (I hear you crying for change)
I feel your pain
One Blood [echoed]
One Blood [echoed]
One Blood [echoed]
One Blood [echoed]
Maybe someone will listen
To what I have to say
And we're killing each other
And it's not okay
Somebody tell me why
We're tearing each other down
And the blood from the innocent
Is crying from the ground (I still believe)
That Love is the answer (I believe)
That we still can come together (holding on)
To what I know is true ohh (ohh)
I'm singing this song
Pouring my heart out to you
You and I (you and I)
Are one the same (are one in the same)
Red blood (red blood)
Flowing through one (flowing through one vein)
