God Is Good

Don Moen keeps "God Is Good" to a plain, testimonial register — no extended argument, just a list of specific claims stacked one after another. The first verse addresses fear directly, walking through valleys with shadows on every side, and answers it with the same promise given to Israel before entering unfamiliar territory: God will not leave or abandon them. The second verse turns to unworthiness — "we are sinners and so unworthy" — and answers that with the cross and the Spirit given afterward, rather than any change in the singer's own standing. The closing lines, "his mercies, they will never end," echo almost word for word the assurance that God's compassions are new every morning precisely because they don't run dry overnight. What holds the whole song together isn't argument but repetition — the phrase "God is good, all the time" doesn't get proven so much as stated with enough confidence, and enough specific reasons attached, that repeating it starts to function as its own kind of evidence.
