Until I Found The Lord

Donald Lawrence tracks a search through a sequence of physical actions rather than describing it all at once in "Until I Found The Lord" — "well I cried and I cried, cried all night long... well I prayed and I prayed, prayed all night long, stayed on my knees until I found the Lord." Each verse escalates to a new posture: crying, praying, moaning, singing, shouting.

"My soul couldn't be contended until I found the Lord" repeats between each stage as the reason none of the earlier searching could stop on its own — nothing less than the actual object of the search would settle it. The song doesn't shortcut the process by skipping straight to resolution.

"I got the victory, the victory" finally arrives only after the full sequence has played out, repeated at length rather than stated once and moved past — the celebration is allowed to take as long as the searching that came before it did.
