Words
Song Meaning
Donald Lawrence's “Words” is a short reflection on how much speech matters. It opens by repeating the key word and calling for awareness: “Realize the power of our words, the harm we can do with our words.” The tone is closer to a reminder than a sermon, and the repetition at the start lets each phrase sink in before the next arrives.
The prayer at the center is borrowed from Scripture: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in the Father's sight.” After it, the singer makes a personal commitment, “May the words I speak touch somebody's life,” and promises, “I won't harm you with my words, I will encourage you.” The lyric then returns to the prayer, ending where it began with the hope that what he says will help others and not hurt them.
The prayer is Psalm 19:14. The claim that words carry force for good or harm is Proverbs 18:21, which says death and life are in the power of the tongue. Ephesians 4:29 gives the same standard, speech that builds up and gives grace to those who hear.
Our words
Realize the power of our words
Words
Our words
The harm we can do with our words
So let the words of my mouth
And the meditations of my heart
Be acceptable in the Father's sight
May the words I speak touch somebodies life
Words
Our words
Realize the power of our words
Words
Our words
The harm we can do with our words
So let the words of my mouth
And the meditations of my heart
Be acceptable in the Father's sight
May the words I speak touch somebodies life
I won't harm you
With my words
I will encourage you
With my words
...
So, let the words of my mouth
And the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in the Father's sight
May the worlds I speak touch somebodies life
May the worlds I speak touch somebodies life
May the worlds I speak touch somebodies life
May the worlds I speak touch somebodies life
May the worlds that I speak touch somebodies life
