Be Kind

Ellie Holcomb starts from a shared beginning rather than present differences — "everyone you meet was little, everyone you meet has grown," even "the first breath that we take here" arriving the same way for every person, "out as a cry." The song works backward from common origin to present obligation.

Her chorus keeps the instruction almost childishly plain: "so be kind, we can be kind, take some time to look a stranger in the eye." Holcomb doesn't dress it up with theology first — she trusts the simplicity, adding only enough reasoning to make the kindness feel urgent: "everyone you know is fighting for their life somewhere."

Paul's instruction in Ephesians 4:32 to "be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted" reads almost like liner notes for this song, and Micah 6:8 sums up what God requires as doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly. Holcomb's closing image — finding "treasure everywhere" if people really saw each other — treats kindness as clear sight, not just good behavior.
