Forrest Frank grounds "MISUNDERSTOOD" in a specific comparison rather than a general call to forgive: being misunderstood by people who "try to mean well" but carry their own unhealed trauma into how they treat others.

The verses name the mechanism precisely — words that "sting you like a bee," a "shadow of home" that stretches long enough to blot out sunshine even on a clear day — before the hook makes its move to the cross: "there's a Man who did as well when they nailed Him to wood." That's the entire theological argument in one line, placing the singer's small daily hurt next to the largest recorded injustice and using the larger one to authorize forgiving the smaller. "Even through all the pain, still, He forgave them" isn't abstract doctrine here, it's the direct model being copied.
