His Perfect Love

Fred Hammond's “His Perfect Love” is a gospel song of encouragement that begins like a message from a friend. He asks brothers and sisters to lend an ear, be of good courage and be of good cheer, and says he hopes they find comfort in his words.

The chorus is the line the whole song comes back to: his perfect love is on you today. The second verse says that whether there is sunshine or rain, or a poor heart is filled with pain, the listener should lift their hands to heaven and proclaim it. The vamp quotes the gospel, that God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, who gave his life so we would know how much he loved us. A later verse speaks to the broken and lost, saying that forgiveness is calling their name and the blood he shed pleaded their case. The second vamp asks why we should be afraid if God is on our side, since his perfect love will cast all fear away. The bridge is personal, with Fred saying there is something about the love of Jesus that came and rescued him when he was lost. The groove and the call-and-response ad-libs give it a feel of a church service, and it fits a day when someone needs to hear that they are loved.
