Your Love Is

Fred Hammond's “Your Love Is” is a song of wonder about the love of God. It starts with a pre-chorus that marvels at how far that love goes: “Beyond what I can think, You go beyond my hopes and highest expectations. The love You've shown on Calvary, forever, always, pursuing me relentlessly.”

The chorus is a prayer for more of God's presence. “Open up the heavens, let me feel Your shower, the shower of Your presence, every moment of each hour.” The singer offers his hand and asks God to take him beyond what he understands. The verses describe the love in images of height and depth, brighter than his hopes and burning like fire, and overflowing like a waterfall. The long vamp is the center of the recording. The choir lists what love is: renewing and refreshing, vital and life-giving, comforting and blessing, a place to run to, a tower and a shelter, and forgiving us forever. Near the end, the lead describes tears that flow whenever he feels God's warm embrace, like the sun on his face. The song works as an extended time of worship in church, where the vamp can continue as long as the room is responding, and it keeps returning to what Christ did at Calvary.

Knowing a love that surpasses knowledge is Ephesians 3:18-19. Heaven's windows opened for blessing is Malachi 3:10, and God as a strong tower is Psalm 61:3.
