Offering

Harborside Music's “Offering” is a worship song about giving a whole life to God. It begins at dawn, when the singer rises and calls on his name, steps up to the altar with praise and asks him to refine every piece of the heart with his flame.

The chorus is the center: let my life be an offering to you, Jesus, an offering to you, Lord. A later line adds that the singer is not walking away, that God can have everything, and that this life is a living sacrifice and an offering of praise. The second verse moves from morning to night, with the same song and the same posture of resting at the altar and laying down every piece of the heart. The bridge slows to a single line, “I will lay down before You,” and the song closes by saying that Jesus is worthy of it all. The language is simple and repetitive, which suits a congregation that wants to linger in one idea during a time of response or communion. It also works well for a personal quiet time at the start of a day or when someone is ready to hand over a decision that has been hard to surrender.
