Hawk Nelson builds "Parachute" around a single physical sensation: gravity. Mistakes, regrets, and shame are described as a force that keeps pulling the singer downward, and the crashing waves of the second line make that descent feel like drowning as much as falling. Fear of being alone is pictured as a stone tied around the neck, dragging the body under.
