Somebody Else

Hawk Nelson's "Somebody Else" opens with a bartered confession — a guitar and a piece of the singer's heart offered up for another person — and then turns restless, asking whether the dreams he's chased are overrated and admitting he's been running from himself. The chorus repeats the title like a refrain of identity loss: he used to be somebody else, and he's holding out for a good reason while people around him say he changes like the seasons. The second verse pushes further into the cost of ambition, describing a dream too big for two people and the ache of feeling like a ghost around the one he loves. There's no tidy resolution here, just a man caught between the pull of a calling and the fear that pursuing it has made him unrecognizable. The song sits in that tension honestly, letting the repeated line carry both regret and a stubborn hope that the change might yet be worth something.
