Father Abraham had many sons

Heritage Kids performs “Father Abraham Had Many Sons,” a children's action song that has been used in Sunday schools and camps for decades. The opening is a short verse about family: “Father Abraham had many sons, many sons had Father Abraham, I am one of them and so are you, so let's all praise the Lord.” The idea is that anyone who trusts God belongs to the family that started with Abraham.

After each pass of the verse, the children add a movement. It begins with “Right arm,” then “Right arm, left arm,” then adds a right foot and a left foot. The last rounds call for “Chin up,” “turn around” and “sit down.” Because each step repeats all the previous ones, the song gets quicker and funnier, and it is easy for young singers to learn.

The family of Abraham is described in Galatians 3:7, which says that those of faith are his children. Romans 4:16 says he is the father of all who believe, and the closing call to praise the Lord matches Psalm 150:6.
