Desert Song

Hillsong United's “Desert Song” is built on one repeated phrase: “This is my prayer.” Each verse names a different place for it, and the first is the desert, “when all that's within me feels dry,” with the confession that “my God is the God who provides.” The second is the fire, “in weakness or trial or pain,” where a faith is proved that is “of more worth than gold,” and the singer asks to be refined through the flame.

The chorus puts the response in the declarative: “I will bring praise,” “I will rejoice, I will declare, God is my victory and He is here.” The third verse is the battle, where triumph “is still on its way” and the singer stands on being a conqueror and “co-heir with Christ.” The bridge names a reason to sing in every season, and the last verse turns to the harvest, with the seed received being sown again: “I know I'm filled to be emptied again.” The progression runs from dry ground to abundance.

The faith “of more worth than gold” is 1 Peter 1:7. “No weapon formed against me shall remain” is Isaiah 54:17, and co-heir with Christ is Romans 8:17.
