For All Who Are To Come

Surrounded by “a great cloud of witnesses,” the worshiper in “For All Who Are to Come” receives faith as both inheritance and assignment. The call to run the marked-out race borrows directly from Hebrews 12:1, where earlier lives of trust encourage present endurance. Faithfulness is not pictured as an isolated achievement; others have gone before, and others will follow.

The lyric then looks beyond the current gathering toward “every generation” and a world singing “Hosanna.” Psalm 145:4 gives that generational vision biblical shape as one generation commends God’s works to another. Revelation 7:9-10 expands it across peoples, nations, and languages gathered in worship before God and the Lamb. The brief song therefore moves from perseverance to proclamation: believers run faithfully now so that praise continues after them. Its title keeps future worshipers in view, asking today’s church to carry the message with endurance and leave a clear witness for those still to come. “Hosanna” becomes both praise and prayer—that God would save, sustain, and gather a people whose worship reaches farther than one moment or generation.
