So You Would Come
Song Meaning
"So You Would Come" strips the gospel down to one sentence repeated like a chorus within the chorus: "everything was done so you would come." That's John 3:16 in different words — the Father's love expressed as an only Son given, aimed not at earning a response but producing one, an invitation rather than a transaction.
The verses insist the invitation isn't means-tested: "though your gift is small" and "broken hearts, broken lives, He will take them all" echoes Romans 5:8's claim that Christ died for the ungodly, not the qualified. The song's only real argument is repetition — before you existed, before you earned or ruined anything, the coming was already arranged.
Before the world began
You were on His mind
And every tear you cry
Is precious in His eyes
Because of His great love
He gave His only Son
Everything was done
So you would come
Nothing you can do
Could make Him love you more
And nothing that you've done
Could make Him close the door
Because of His great love
He gave His only Son
Everything was done
So you would come
Come to the Father
Though your gift is small
Broken hearts, broken lives
He will take them all
The power of the Word
The power of His blood
Everything was done
So you would come
