Show Your Power

A declaration of who God is comes before any request in "Show Your Power." Jeremy Riddle repeats "He is the Lord" after each description: "He reigns on high," He "spoke into the darkness, created the light" (Genesis 1:3), and "who is like unto Him, never ending in days," a question that echoes Exodus 15:11. Then comes the line "He comes in power when we call on His name."

The chorus makes the request: "Show Your power, oh Lord our God... send Your power." The second verse supplies its basis, "Your gospel, oh Lord, is the hope of this nation... it's the power of God for our salvation," which comes from Romans 1:16. The prayer is for a nation, and the song says plainly where its hope rests.

The last section sets priorities. "We ask not for riches but look to the cross, 'cause You are the Lord, and for our inheritance give us the loss," a surprising line that fits Galatians 6:14's boasting only in the cross and the willingness to lose worldly things. The lyric credits Kevin Prosch as songwriter, and it ends by repeating "send Your power."
