The Last Time

JJ Heller keeps a difficult decision genuinely undecided for most of the song in "The Last Time" — "and I cannot decide where my heart will abide, close to you is comfortable and safe, but just not right." The pull toward what's familiar is named honestly rather than dismissed as an easy choice.

"My heart is hanging by a thread, I'm tired of listening to my head" admits real exhaustion with the back-and-forth, and "please... make this the last time" states the actual request plainly after several verses of hesitation. "I face the world alone again, oh how I miss my closest friend" keeps naming the real cost of the decision rather than pretending it's painless.

"So even though my heart feels out of my control, I know that I can say it is well my soul" quotes the old hymn's own claim directly, and "teach me to be who I am in you" closes the song by redirecting the search for identity toward God rather than the relationship just being left behind.
