Get Your Hopes Up

Morning light and a tailwind set the scene for Josh Baldwin's "Get Your Hopes Up." The sun is "waking up the morning, reviving dreams," and a wind at the back carries a reminder of promise. The verses then name what has changed: a "garment of praise for heaviness" and "a new song burning inside my chest." Weight is set down and joy picked up before the chorus even begins.

The chorus is blunt and repeated: "Get your hopes up. Lift your head up. Let your faith arise." Each command is answered by a claim about God rather than a technique, "Our God is for us" and "He's brought us back to life," so the encouragement rests on what has been done, not on the singer's own optimism. The first of those lines echoes Romans 8:31.

A bridge shifts to a prayer of protection, "Christ before me, Christ behind me, I am firmly held," set beside "His mercy never ending."
