Don't Look Back

Josh Wilson names a very specific kind of haunting before offering any remedy — "maybe you're like me, maybe you can't see past your mistakes, they haunt you like a ghost, they won't leave you alone" — treating regret as something with its own persistent presence, not simply a bad memory.

"You always hear them say you'll always be this way" externalizes the discouraging voice as something repeatedly spoken, whether by others or by the mind itself. "A new day, fresh start, clean slate, clear heart" stacks four short phrases for the same hoped-for change, building anticipation through accumulation rather than one description.

"Mercy has swallowed up all your mistakes, swim in His infinite oceans of grace" shifts the imagery from being haunted to being immersed, replacing a small following presence with an overwhelming, generous one. "We have a Savior who lived died and paid for" compresses the entire gospel narrative into a single clause justifying the instruction. The bridge's borrowed hymn, "I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back," repeats a much older declaration, tying the song's contemporary language of moving on to a long tradition of the same resolve.
