Cover the Sea

Joshua Aaron frames the whole song as an invitation to someone else — "put your hand in mine, together we will walk in harmony, let me introduce you to my Teacher, the Rabbi from the Galilee." "Love the ones who wish you evil, forgive them in the name of the Lord" reaches directly for Matthew 5:44's command to "love your enemies, bless those who curse you."

The closing image, "let His love cover you and me like the waters cover the sea," lifts Habakkuk 2:14 almost word for word: "the earth will be filled with the knowledge of Yahweh's glory, as the waters cover the sea." Habakkuk's prophecy about global knowledge becomes, in the song, a smaller and more personal picture — the same completeness of coverage, applied to two specific people rather than the whole earth at once.
