Song Meaning
KB turns a familiar pop chorus about leaning on a friend into a covenant, rapping "thou shalt love thy crew" as if it were a commandment carved in stone. The song's central image is a squad bound tighter than blood: if one wins, they all win; if trouble comes for one, it comes for everyone. KB measures friendship against money and finds cash can only buy yes-men, never the person who will tell you to your face when you are tripping and then defend you behind your back. There is a striking line about whether friends write your wins on their wishlist or your sins for remembrance, answered by the grace of those who chose to forgive. Loyalty here stretches all the way to Heaven's gate, and the closing verse widens the circle past the crew to brother, sister, mother, lover — anyone who needs someone to lean on. The borrowed chorus keeps the mood warm rather than triumphant, admitting the rapper will need carrying too. It is less a boast about having a posse than a vow to be the kind of friend who shows up.

Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need somebody to lean on
Thou shall love thy crew
That's my twin, I call that double you, you, yeah
They win, I win, fall out, we won't do, uh
All the ones that didn't leave, no them, no me
How I lean, yeah, thou shalt love thy crew, uh, aye
If I got it, then the homies got it, too, ooh, aye
If they come for me, they come after you
Ones who loyal to the grave
Walk with you through Heaven's gate
Thou shall, thou shall, thou shall love thy crew
Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need somebody to lean on
Everybody needs somebody, somebody to lean on
You tell me where you are falling, or when we turnin' up
Family is not alone, hold up in each other's arms
I'll go off in the night as long as I got my dogs
Got a squad full of rich men, yeah
And we ain't need a wrist with Richard, yeah
We was all rich with a Nixon, yeah
And everything we do is presidential
Money buy yes men, it can't buy friendship, yeah
The ones that will go with you the distance, yeah
And'll tell you to your face when you trippin', yeah
Go behind you back to defend you
And if we all fail, then we fail with our kinsmen
Too nice with the penship
Do they write your wins on their wishlist?
Or do they write your sins for remembrance?
Or do they right your sins with redemption?
If I bleed, it's a privilege
Yeah, grace to the ones that are still here
To the ones who chose to forgive us, yeah
Please God, bless my crew, uh, uh
That's my twin, I call that double you, you, yeah
They win, I win, fall out, we won't do, uh
All the ones that didn't leave, no them, no me
How I lean, yeah, thou shalt love thy crew, uh, aye
If I got it, then the homies got it, too, ooh, aye
If they come for me, they come after you
Ones who loyal to the grave
Walk with you through Heaven's gate
Thou shall, thou shall, thou shall love thy
Whole team in the city tonight, and we light it up
It's a family affair, got my brothers on side of me
Angels that guided me take me up
It's so rare when you really find real love and it's genuine
Not just a crew in college chasing Benjamins
Trust me, it's more to life
It's a war, hope you ready to fight
And I'll fight for you
If you lean on me
My brother, my sister, my mother, my lover, my other
My if you need me, then just know I'm here for you
You don't have to bear it, you don't have to worry
You can lean on me, you can lean on me
Thou shalt love they crew, uh, aye
If I got it, then the homies got it, too, ooh, aye
If they come for me, they come after you
The ones who loyal to the grave
Walk with you through Heaven's gate
Thou shall, thou shall, thou shall love thy crew
Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need somebody to lean on, lean on me
