"The ground could shake and waters rage" reaches for Psalm 46:2's picture of total upheaval, "though the earth changes... though its waters roar and are troubled," and the psalm's own answer is the same one the song gives: presence rather than calm circumstances.

"Nothing can separate us from Your love" lifts Romans 8:38's claim almost directly — not death, not life, nothing in all creation. "No fear, no shame, no lie, no grave" lists specific threats rather than staying vague, each one named and then set against the same unchanging promise, the song's brevity letting the list do the work instead of elaborate explanation.
