Search My Heart

Lifebreakthrough's “Search My Heart” is a short prayer of confession. It opens with a request that echoes the psalms, “Search my heart, search my soul,” and goes straight to what the singer wants removed: “Take my shame, take it deep within, take my sin, lead me back to You.” The song does not describe a dramatic fall. It simply asks God to bring the singer home.

The middle section says why that is possible. “By Your precious blood, I will dwell in You,” the singer sings, and the next lines build on it with “By Your righteousness, I will walk” and “By Your gracious love, I will seek Your name.” Each line rests on what Christ has done, not on the singer's effort. The closing verse is honest about the setting, “In this wilderness, I'm lost deep within,” and returns to the same plea, “Lead my path, lead me back to You.” The repetition makes it suitable for quiet moments of prayer in a service.

The prayer to be searched is Psalm 139:23-24. Cleansing by his blood is 1 John 1:7, and being led through hard places is Isaiah 43:2.
