The God Who Sees

Liz Cornwell's “The God Who Sees” is a worship song that takes its title from the name Hagar gave God in the wilderness. It begins by naming him as creator of the universe and maker of her soul, then turns to a personal line: you see me, you are the God who sees me.

The verse is honest about weak moments. When faith is dim and fear creeps in, she chooses to trust, because her times are in his hands. The song then looks at pain that no one else sees. It speaks of every affliction and the distress of the soul, and of the deepest struggles that no one else knows. God hears every cry and, as the lyrics say, bottles each tear. A short bridge borrows the language of a psalm, saying that he has searched and known her, has seen her, and still loves her. The final lines declare that he is Lord and that she will trust in him.
