Behold The Savior

"Oh, what innocence, sleeping in a manger" is how Meredith Andrews begins, and the opening verse sets a king beside a feeding trough, "trading every glory for a silent night." The scene comes from Luke 2:7, and the phrase about trading glory is close to Philippians 2:7, which says Christ emptied himself.

The second verse piles up paradoxes: "veiled deity," "sweet humility," "mercy as a baby," "God in flesh and bone." Angels give praise and "shepherds bowing low," but the focus stays on how small the arrival is.

The pre-chorus states the point of the manger: "Here is the promise we have waited for. He will not leave us in the dark. He will bear our weight, He will wear our shame." That follows Isaiah 53:4 on bearing our griefs. The chorus is an invitation, "come lift Him high, behold the Savior, Jesus Christ, law of love and light," and the bridge names "Emmanuel," from Isaiah 7:14, calling the child "the cry of every searching heart."
