Fight Song Missionary Mashup

Song Meaning

Micah Harmon builds this one on top of Rachel Platten's well-known 'Fight Song' chorus — 'this is my fight song, take back my life song' stays intact, note for note — but wraps it in original verses that redirect the borrowed determination toward a specific, named goal: 'I hope they call me on a mission when I have grown a foot or two... to teach and preach and work as missionaries do.' The secular chorus supplies the energy; the added verses supply the actual content.

That aspiration echoes Isaiah 6:8's 'here am I, send me' — a child's version of the same willingness to be sent, phrased with real humility about not being ready yet ('when I have grown a foot or two') rather than overclaiming readiness. 'Teach and preach... as missionaries do' reaches toward Matthew 28:19's commission to 'go, and make disciples of all nations.' Because the fight-song imagery is borrowed rather than original, the specific theological content carrying real weight here lives entirely in the verses, not the hook.

Like a small boat on the ocean

sending the big waves into motion *

Like how a single word

Can make a heart open

I might have only one match

But I can make an explosion

I hope they call me on a mission

When I have grown a foot or two.

I hope by then I will be ready

To teach and preach and work as missionaries do.

...

This is my fight song

Take back my life song

Prove I'm alright song

My power's turned on

Starting right now I'll be strong

I'll play my fight song

And I don't really care if nobody else believes

'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me
