God And Time

NewSong speaks straight to someone in the first hours of grief. The singer knows you wished you had been there to say goodbye and could turn back the hands of time, and he admits the pain of loss is almost more than you can bear. Rather than answer the questions, he offers hope in despair: "All you need is God and time."

The second verse gives the idea some theology. Only God can truly understand how His healing works and how He uses time to overcome our hurts, and He is not surprised by anything that happens in your life. The speaker never claims to have the answers to all the "questions why," and that honesty keeps the comfort from sounding glib.

A final turn looks past the present: this side of heaven we may never understand, but we can trust the heart of God and know we are always in His hands. Psalm 34:18 and Psalm 147:3 describe the same nearness to the brokenhearted, and 1 Corinthians 13:12 matches the admission that understanding stays partial for now.
