Love Came On Christmas (Joy To The World x Kumama Papa)

Pentatonix build this one on top of Isaac Watts' "Joy to the World," letting the old hymn's declarations — "the Lord, the Lord has come, let earth receive her King" — carry the weight while new verses fill in around them. "Heaven and nature sing" stays intact from the original, unbothered by three centuries between then and now.

The new material keeps things simple and present-tense rather than historical: "joy can be hard to come by, so let's make this Christmas one to remember... 'cause love's here and here to stay." The hymn's ancient announcement gets translated into an invitation to actually notice it this year.

Watts originally built "Joy to the World" out of Psalm 98's call to make a joyful noise and let the whole earth sing, and John's letter names the reason for the joy directly — God's love made visible by sending his Son. The bridge's return to hymn language, "he rules the world with His truth and His grace," keeps the modern pop arrangement anchored to the same claim the original hymn was built to make.
