Angels (Glory To God)

Phil Wickham builds his setting around the old Latin refrain "Gloria, in excelsis Deo," letting the ancient Christmas text carry the weight while the surrounding verses keep the shepherds and their startled joy in view. The lyric lingers on that exchange between earth and heaven: angels singing over the plains, mountains answering back, and the question pressed to the shepherds about what has them so glad. That curiosity turns into an invitation — come to Bethlehem, kneel, look at the newborn King — so the song moves from hearing the news to standing in front of it. The added chorus makes the praise plain rather than ceremonial, repeating glory to God in the highest and tying it to his unfailing love and all he has done. Where the traditional carol stays mostly in the fields at night, this version keeps circling back to the same three words until they feel less like a quotation and more like a response. It's a song that treats adoration as something you join rather than something you observe, and the repeated Gloria at the end leaves the listener still saying it.
