You're Still God

Philippa Hanna wrote "You're Still God" for the moments faith doesn't feel triumphant — "when all foundations have been shaken," "left standing in the dark," a soul that "may feel forsaken." Each verse names a specific kind of collapse and answers it with the same four words: you still reign, you're still God. That's close to the shape of Habakkuk's prayer, written when the fig tree hadn't budded and the fields had failed, choosing to rejoice in God anyway rather than because circumstances improved. Hanna's bridge makes the promise explicit — "you'll never leave me nor forsake me" — pulling from the assurance given to Joshua and repeated throughout scripture as a fixed point regardless of what changes around it. The song doesn't resolve the darkness it opens with; it just keeps stating the one thing that hasn't moved. That's the whole argument: not that the pain isn't real, but that God's nature was never contingent on the pain going away.
