Out With The Old

Release is the whole idea in PlanetBoom's "Out with the Old." The singer hands over "the old me" and steps into "the new me" with Jesus working through. The first verse already faces forward, "Forget all the former things," and the chorus turns that into motion: "I'm looking ahead / 'Cause I'm looking at You," then "I'm running to You."

A rhythmic second verse calls the exchange "the greatest feeling" and borrows dawn imagery, "Joy comes in the morning," before giving all honour, glory, and power to Jesus. A stretch of repeated "Jesus" call-and-response leads into the bridge, where each day is lived for Him: "This is the day / That the Lord has made / So I will praise You." The short, repeated lines are built for a crowd to sing back.

Isaiah 43 supplies the forgetting of former things, 2 Corinthians 5 the new creation, Psalm 118 the day the Lord has made, and Psalm 30 the joy that arrives in the morning. Newness here is something Christ does in the singer, not something the singer manufactures.
