Gospel Song

Rhett Walker's “Gospel Song” is about wanting to hear the gospel more than the noise around him. The first verse lists what he could listen to, “my heart, the world, my problems,” and says what he needs to hear “nice and loud and crystal clear” is who is going to solve them. The chorus describes the kind of song that does it, “Ain't nothing like a gospel song makes me want to sing it all day long.”

He names its features, “something 'bout that amazing grace sound of praise makes my troubles not seem so strong,” and he asks for “a heart set free, Holy Bible to a melody.” The second verse is a short testimony. “I was dead and brought to life by the power of my Savior.” He admits that “sometimes I forget it's true,” and says, “I could use a reminder.” The closing chorus is a promise, “I will sing the name of Jesus, I will sing 'til kingdom come.”

Singing the word in this way is Colossians 3:16. Being made alive is Ephesians 2:5, and singing a song to the Lord is Psalm 96:1.
