Ladder

Rick Pino builds this song around a single, almost startling claim, repeated until it settles in: "there's a ladder in this place, and the heavens are open." He's not describing a future hope — he's naming something he believes is happening right now, in the room, as the song is sung.

His response to that claim isn't complicated theology; it's an image of opened doors and opened hearts, repeated in waves: "we open up the doors... we open up our hearts... let the King of glory in." Pino treats worship as an active gesture of hospitality rather than passive observation.

Jacob dreams of exactly this ladder reaching to heaven, with angels ascending and descending on it, in Genesis 28:12, and Jesus tells Nathanael in John 1:51 that he will see "heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man." Pino's repeated title takes Jacob's ancient dream and Jesus' own promise and sings them as a present reality rather than a story from long ago.
