Song Meaning

Steven Curtis Chapman's “King Of The Jungle” starts with a morning that is already running late, with too many irons in the fire and too much on his plate. He would be pulling his hair out if he could get one hand free, and he would stop the world if he could find the key.

What he feels says he is going crazy, but what is real says God is still on his throne. The thing he needs to remember is that the Lord of the gentle breeze is also Lord of the rough and tumble, and he is the King of the jungle. The second verse admits that people say the world is a jungle and that he would be scared to death if he did not know who was king of it. The truth is that God created the whole world with his own hand, so everything is under his command. The chorus spells out the title letter by letter in a playful way and says he is king of creation, ruler of the sky and the sea, always in control, the King of kings sitting on the throne. Chapman wrote it as a light, bouncing tune that children enjoy, but the message about worry is for adults as well. It works at a family event or a children's program, and also for anyone who needs a reminder when the schedule feels out of control.

The Lord reigning is Psalm 93:1. Jesus calming the storm is Mark 4:39, and the earth being the Lord's is Psalm 24:1.

Well, the day has just begun
And I'm already running late
With too many irons in the fire
And too much on my plate
I'd be pulling out my hair
If I could just get one hand free
And I'd stop this world
If I could find the key

What I feel
Is telling me I'm going crazy
But what is real
Says God's still on His throne
What I need
Is to remember one thing:
That the Lord of the gentle breeze
Is Lord of the rough and tumble
And He is the King of the jungle

People say this world's a jungle
And sometimes I must admit
I'd be scared to death
If I did not know who was king of it
But the truth is God created
This whole world with His own hand
So everything is under His command, and...

What I feel
Is telling me this world's gone crazy
But what is real
Says God's still on His throne
What I need
Is to remember one thing:
That the Lord of the gentle breeze
Is Lord of the rough and tumble
And He is the King of the jungle

K-i-n-g of the j-u-n-g-l-e
He's king of creation
K-i-n-g of the j-u-n-g-l-e
Ruler of all of the sky and the sea
K-i-n-g of the j-u-n-g-l-e
He's always in control
K-i-n-g of the j-u-n-g-l-e
He is the King of kings
K-i-n-g of the j-u-n-g-l-e
He's sitting on the throne
K-i-n-g of the j-u-n-g-l-e
He is the King of kings
