Spring Is Coming

Chapman writes grief as a planting season rather than a dead end — "we planted the seed while the tears of our grief soaked the ground" sets up the song's whole argument that burial isn't the last word for a seed. John 12:24's image of a kernel that must fall into the earth and die before it bears fruit sits underneath every verse here, even though the word "seed" appears only once.

"To everything there is a season" borrows Ecclesiastes 3:1 directly, reframing winter as a season with an expiration date built in rather than a permanent state. The backing vocals answer the verses with Isaiah 61:3's promise of beauty instead of ashes — "out of these ashes, beauty will rise," "sorrow will be turned to joy" — turning what could be a generic hope song into a specific claim: what's buried now is scheduled to come up green.
