Song Meaning

The Belonging Co build this one around a single question answered the same way every time: "who's tasted death, but never known defeat... who is this king of glory, our God so strong and mighty?" The chorus reaches for 2 Chronicles 20:15's instruction to a terrified army, "don't be afraid... for the battle isn't yours, but God's."

"He is fighting for us" names the song's whole posture — not a call to personal strength, but a shift of who's actually doing the fighting. "My war cry is praise" turns the title's military language inward; rather than shouting at an enemy, the song redirects the shout toward worship, close to 2 Chronicles 20:22's account of Judah's army singing and praising right before the ambush that won the battle.
