Redeemed

The Martins sing “Redeemed,” the hymn Fanny Crosby wrote in 1882 with music by William Kirkpatrick, and it is also known by its first line, “Redeemed, How I Love to Proclaim It.” The first verse says, “Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, redeemed through His infinite mercy, His child and forever I am.” The second adds that the singer is “so happy in Jesus” with “no language my rapture can tell.”

The refrain keeps the main word in view: “Redeemed, redeemed, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. Redeemed, redeemed, His child and forever I am.” A third verse takes in a whole day, saying, “I think of my blessed Redeemer, I think of Him all day long, I sing, for I cannot be silent, His love is the theme of my song.” The last stanza looks ahead to seeing the King “in His beauty” who “lovingly guards every footstep and gives me a song in the night.”

Being redeemed with precious blood is 1 Peter 1:18-19, and saying so aloud is Psalm 107:2. Redemption through his blood is Ephesians 1:7.
