Rest My Soul

Tim Timmons builds "Rest My Soul" around a soul that is told what to do three times over: rise, sing, and rest. The opening verses speak to the listener directly, saying "God's in control, you're not alone" and "His plans are good, you're on His side." Those short declarations set up the chorus, where the picture turns to water: the "God of perfect peace" is present "on this raging sea," and the singer answers with "I will rest my soul in You."

The second verse shifts from reassurance to praise. It admits weakness, "for He is strong and you are weak," and responds by singing "with everything" rather than waiting for strength to return. The bridge then repeats a single confession again and again, "I will call upon Your name, you're above my circumstance, all my life is in Your hands," until the repetition itself becomes the point.

The resting language follows Psalm 62:1, where the soul waits quietly for God alone, and the promise of perfect peace recalls Isaiah 26:3 for a mind fixed on Him. Calling on His name in the bridge fits Romans 10:13. It suits anyone facing a season where circumstances have not changed yet and trust has to come first.
