Already Loved

Assurance is the whole subject of Tim Timmons' "Already Loved," and it arrives as a flat statement repeated until it sticks: "I'm already, I'm already loved / No matter what." The first verse describes that love as having nowhere to hide from, asking "Where can I run / Where You have not gone," and mercy that greets the singer "As soon as I wake each morning."

A line in the verse imagines God singing, "A new melody, You sing over me," which quietly recalls Zephaniah's picture of a God who rejoices over his people with singing. The chorus then closes off the idea of performance: "I cannot break it, earn it or shake it / What's done is done." Doubt gets an honest place in the second verse, where Jesus is "quick to remind" the singer of a heart that is "for me."

A bridge of "You've been so good to me" shifts the tone from statement to thanks, and the final chorus returns to the same plain words. The song makes a case for grace by repetition, without adding anything new to the claim: love that was settled before any effort and cannot be reversed.
